​Our History

New Life Covenant Church was established in 1957 in Twig, Minnesota, just 15 miles outside of Duluth. The congregation first met in an old one‑room schoolhouse, which received indoor plumbing in the mid‑1970s and a sanctuary addition in the 1980s. For much of our early history, the church was served by part‑time or shared pastors and functioned as a preaching point in a rural setting. In the 1990s, New Life nearly had to close its doors—were it not for a few faithful individuals who remained committed to the ministry. Through listening to the Lord and following His lead, New Life has become an active, thriving church.

Over time, the original facility became a hindrance to ministry. As a church family seeking to bring Jesus Christ to a lost and hurting world, we found ourselves at a defining moment. Was God leading us on a new adventure, in a new location? Was He calling us to something that seemed so much bigger than we were?

In 2006, New Life began a thoughtful process of discerning God’s direction regarding a new church building. Five acres of land were donated across the street from the original building, and an additional 2.7 adjoining acres were purchased under the guidance of our Building Committee. After three months of weekly input sessions, a Capital Campaign Committee was formed. In May 2013, we launched a three‑year capital campaign called The Wave.

Through The Wave—and countless hours of donated time and expertise—the new facilities at 5309 Dickerman Road became a reality. On May 31, 2015, we officially moved across the street into our new building, carrying the cross from the origional faclity.

In 2024, we sensed the Lord leading us on a new journey of freedom. The Freedom Campaign was launched as an effort to pay down the remaining mortgage and free us for greater ministry adventures ahead. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, many continued to give sacrificially as new members joined the cause.  On June 7, 2026, New Life celebrated paying off our mortgage and becoming completely debt free.

Today, New Life is faithfully listening to the Lord, seeking His guidance, and stepping out in faith. Our focus remains on helping people: Connect with the Living God in a way they have not previously known; Grow in their faith as they mature in that faith; and Become the hands and feet of Jesus.

  • Connect: We believe lost people matter to God. Connecting the unconnected to our Savior Jesus Christ is the central focus of what God has called us to do. 
  • Grow: We understand New Birth as a beginning and not an end. As Christ followers our mission is to pursue Spiritual transformation over a life time.  
  • Become: We are not simply individuals consuming religious goods. Our mission is to become a community that reflects God’s priorities in the world.
